Meeting Description

Cement is the key ingredient in concrete—the most-used building material in the world—so every advance in understanding how it behaves presents an opportunity to reduce greenhouse gases, advance construction engineering, and improve quality of life around the globe. Organized by ACerS Cements Division, The 10th Advances in Cement-Based Materials took place June 16–18, 2019, at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Champaign, Illinois, USA.

David A. Lange of the University of Illinois, presented the Della Roy Lecture, “Beyond the Science” on Monday, June 17. The lecture was a retrospective on major research thrusts over the years, emphasizing a somewhat philosophical observation that our life’s work is not just about science and technology, but about education, reasoning, human relationships, etc.
