Get ALL the figures and diagrams
Each update adds more figures and more diagrams to the database. Version 5.2 contains 20,708 figures (full system writeups with commentary and all pertinent diagrams) with over 33,000 individual phase equilibrium diagrams.
For example, a new system in PHASE 5.2, CeO2-La2O3-Sm2O3, includes materials with promise as exhaust-gas catalysts, memristors, solid electrolytes, protective coatings, sensors, and medical materials.
Even if you only use a few systems, updates often contain new figures for older systems which are revised with the latest data and modeling information available. Examples include these two systems, which data back to Volume 1 of the Phase Equilibrium Diagram books and database.
- CaF2-MgO, which can be used to assess the desulfurization behavior of alumina-rich CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 slags in blast furnaces, which is important for obtaining high-quality metal
- Al2O3-MgO-TiO2, with compounds that are widely used in ceramics and microwave dielectric materials because of their high erosion and abrasion resistance, excellent thermal-shock stability, and dielectric properties. The editor notes that there are discrepancies between the experimental data of this diagram and the results from a popular commercial phase diagram modeling software package.
Updated Software
PHASE 5.2 contains our Javascript*-based PED Viewer data analysis software, which offers a number of benefits
- In-browser operations: No need to keep track of secondary software windows
- Future-proof: Since it operates within the browser environment, Javascript will be a stable graphics operations platform for years to come
- Your IT group will love you: Javascript is free, easy to install and configure, low-maintenance, and has minimal security concerns
*Despite similar names, Javascript and Java are completely different software platforms. When PHASE was first developed, Java was the premier graphics rendering and manipulation system available. Since that time it has experienced many issues including versioning, maintenance challenges, security concerns, and added licensing fees. PHASE no longer requires JAVA, greatly simplifying installation, maintenance, and operation. However, if you choose to continue operating the PED Viewer from software version 4.5 or older, you will need to keep Java 8 operational and appropriately licensed.
Reduced update pricing now and going forward
With our new update pricing, your investment in PHASE USB retains value, no matter how long ago you made your purchase. Owners of ANY prior version of PHASE can purchase version 5.2 at a price lower than the cost for a new user.
Furthermore, our pricing is designed to encourage yearly updates within the version 5.x family. First, update pricing within 5.x are substantially lower than for previous generations. Second, you save money by updating with every new version (nominally each year) compared to waiting. On the Phase Purchase page you'll see that updating from version 5.1 to 5.2 is less than half the price of updating from version 5.0. This trend will continue as we progress to versions 5.3 and beyond.
