From sustainable energy to effective healthcare to security at home, our nation is counting on rapid developments of practical new technologies. At South Carolina’s Applied Research Center (ARC), many of America’s most skilled researchers are working daily to advance their knowledge and use of technology. Established as a hydrogen energy research facility in 2006, ARC’s mission has expanded to encompass the broader needs of government, academia, and the private sector. This 60,000-square-foot facility, combining state-of-the-art laboratories and a conference center, is home to many organizations, including the Department of Energy’s Savannah River National Laboratory. Researchers at ARC are expanding the limits of hydrogen, solar, wind, and microwave energy technology, along with other forms of advanced technology. They recently opened a 600-square-foot lab devoted solely to microwave and RF-related research. Scientists are also exploring the capture and commercial marketing of Helium-3 captured from decaying tritium produced in nuclear reactors. |
